Both fire-tube and coil steam boilers have the same purpose: to produce “dry” saturated steam for maximum heat delivery to the consumer. Both types of boilers operate on the same basic principles, in which water is contained in a confined space and heated by burning a fuel source. The energy from combustion is transferred from the flame to the water through radiation and heat conduction, heating the water and ultimately raising the steam. However, the means of heating the water to the point of “dry” steam differ significantly.

Fire-Tube Boilers
Fire-tube steam boilers are the most traditional technology for producing saturated steam, high-pressure hot water, or superheated steam for a wide range of industries.
Steam is produced by heating a large volume of water in a pressurized drum using hot gases generated by burning liquid or gaseous fuel circulating through submerged pipes.
Coil Type Steam Boilers
Coil-type boilers have become the best choice for steam production, and their popularity will continue to grow; this is not surprising, given their numerous advantages. Not only are they more energy efficient, simpler, and safer to operate, but they also produce steam very quickly—from three minutes from a cold start to full power. This last aspect is important when the technological process is intermittent or starts and stops daily.
